The música Mexicana hitmakers share a clip of their 'Up Next' film on Apple Music exclusively with Variety.
Grupo Frontera — that is frontman Adelaido “Payo” Solís III, Juan Javier Cantú, Julian Peña Jr., Alberto “Beto” Acosta, Carlos Guerrero and Brian Ortega — have had a big year. After releasing their debut record “El Comienzo” earlier this August, Frontera scored their first Latin Grammy nominations — namely in the coveted song of the year category for their Bad Bunny-assisted cumbia “Un X100to.”
The single became the Texas-bred group’s first Hot 100 top 10 hit and was the second música Mexicana single to ever hit the top five of the all-genre-inclusive chart. It also broke the record for the biggest música Mexicana song of all time by first-day streams on Apple Music worldwide, per data provided by the DSP.

Before that breakthrough, Grupo Frontera had been quietly dominating the evolving realm of música Mexicana with hits like “No Se Va” and “Bebe Dame” by embracing the musicality and culture from both sides of the border. Now, the six-member group is being recognized by Apple Music in their “Up Next” series, which aims to showcase rising talent and has previously touted artists including Bad Bunny, Billie Eilish, Ice Spice and more.
“We are grateful for the continued support from our Apple Music family and are looking forward to showcasing an intimate look into who we are behind the music through this project,” said Grupo Frontera in a press release.
According to Apple Music, Grupo Frontera streams have grown over 3,000% in the past year as their songs have reached Apple Music’s Daily Top 100 in 39 countries worldwide.
In their exclusive “Up Next” short film out today, the band brings fans along for a personal tour of their home base in the Texas Valley to showcase where the band first sprouted its wings. They visit a few of the memorable spaces where they performed for family events, the studio that produced some of their most recognized singles and the carnitas spot that proved an essential post-session fueling.
