McCarthy said that she hadn't reached out to Carrey directly about seeing Evan, her son with ex-husband John Mallory Asher, but had gone through "channels" to try to make plans.
"I still love him," McCarthy admitted. "I think you can love people from a distance and respect them. But as a mother, you just hope when you have a relationship with someone, it has nothing to do with the child when you break up.
"I tell [Evan] that, someday, [he and Carrey will] cross paths, meet again...but it's hard," McCarthy continued. "He's been in therapy. It's a process, he's working on it."

"As you get older, Howard, you kind of get to see things more clearly," McCarthy also said. "Hopefully you get happier, and I am so much happier."
