Want to try some Christmassy-but-not-too-Christmassy nail art? Silver tip nails might just be your gal.
If you thought silver was purely reserved for your jewellery collection, those metallic boots that come out only at Christmas or the razzle-dazzle of a sequin Christmas party dress, we have some news for you. Your nails want in on the action too.
This festive take on the classic French mani can be as bold or low-key elegant as you like. In fact, it's is ideal for times when you need to spruce up your look and don't fancy being a head-to-toe disco ball. Best of all, silver tip nails actually don't require very much effort at all – all you need is a silver-coloured nail polish or a glitter with silver specks, as well as your base coat and top coat.
Of course, for those who do want to go all out, you can get as creative as you like with a silver tip manicure – with extra eye-catching nail art (silver flames, anyone?). Head to your nail salon armed with your favourite chrome manicure ideas, and you won't be disappointed.
With that in mind, we've rounded up a few of our favourite silver-tipped nail designs to give you all the inspiration you need – scroll on…
1. The classic silver tip nails
This set may be simple, but it's mega eye-catching, and has that frosted look that's seriously trending at the moment. Here, as with a French manicure, only the tips are decorated with silver-coloured nail polish, with the base coat kept clear or very light pink.
2. The silver-coloured glitter rain
This nail design with glitter is just as chic as the French manicure, but even more party-ready. To do this, first coat the nail with clear nail polish or nude-coloured polish and then immediately apply silver-coloured glitter particles to the tip of the nails (the best way to do this is with a cosmetic sponge). The base coat must still be a little sticky for the glitter to hold. Then, fix with top coat.
3. The curved "silver tip" nails
These silver tip nails require a steady hand and a little practice. Silver-toned nail polish is artfully curved around the tips of the nails to create a wave-like design. We're obsessed.
4. The rosé meets silver
For this nail design, you need rosé and silver-coloured polishes. First apply base coat to the nails, then apply the rosé-coloured polish. Decorate the tips (in this example, the corners have been filed down to create a striking square shape) with the silver polish and finish with another top coat over the entire nail. The rosé gives this a really delicate effect.
5. The fun and playful
Also beautiful: when crisp silver tips are combined with another nail design. We love this half-moon mani – the chrome green looks extra festive with the silver.
6. The elegant silver-coloured border
Granted, this isn't exactly a silver tip – but this pretty fine line nail art adds an extra somethin'-somethin' to a traditional French mani. This is another one that's probably best left to the professionals, unless you have an ultra-steady hand.
7. The party silver tip nails
We love this take on the silver tip trend, teaming metallic silver with large specks of glitter polish. How cute does it look with a cosy grey knit too? We're recreating this, STAT.
8. The silver flames
Yes, you can also conjure up creative French nails in silver on short nails. How about flames as a nail design for your next manicure? We're sold.
