A 13-year-old boy has been arrested in Lewisham after a 14-year-old was stabbed in the thigh on his way to school.
Police were called to Deptford Green School near New Cross Road in Lewisham, south-east London this morning where they found a 14-year-old boy with a non-life threatening stab wound.
A spokeswoman for the school said: "A boy arrived at school with what looked like a stab wound and we dealt with it quickly.
"We believe it is something that happened on the way to school, with a pupil from another school. No pupil from this school has been arrested."
A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said that they believe incident happened in the area of Avonley Road, SE14 and that a weapon had been recovered.
The boy was taken to a south London hospital and is in a stable condition.
Scotland Yard's Lewisham Borough Twitter feed added: "This could have been much worse. It's only luck that this child wasn't more seriously hurt."
The stabbing comes just days after the Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe called for more stop and searches to curb knife crime.
